If your watchlist is starting to feel a little too predictable, same. I’ve been deep in my comfort shows lately—Virgin River, The Valley, and of course Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (forever and always). But now I’m ready to mix things up, and a couple of new shows just landed that might be worth adding to the rotation.
First up: Big Mistakes on Netflix.
This one immediately caught my attention because it comes from Dan Levy—yes, the genius behind Schitt’s Creek and son of Eugene Levy. The story follows two very unqualified siblings—Nicky, a pastor, and Morgan, an elementary school teacher—who somehow get pulled into organized crime after stealing a necklace for their dying grandmother. Chaos, but make it heartfelt and funny?
The cast alone has me sold: Taylor Ortega and Laurie Metcalf (playing their over-the-top, mayoral-candidate mom). And bonus: all 8 episodes are already streaming, which means zero waiting.
Then there’s Margot’s Got Money Troubles over on Apple TV+, and this one feels like it’s going to get people talking. Elle Fanning stars as a college dropout, pregnant, broke, and trying to figure life out—so naturally, she turns to OnlyFans to make ends meet. It’s messy, modern, and probably way too real.
The supporting cast is stacked too: Michelle Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman play her very unconventional parents (a former Hooters waitress and a pro wrestler… say less).
Both of these shows feel like they could shake up my current lineup in the best way—one more comedy-crime chaos, the other a little more edgy and real-world messy.
So now I need to know: have you watched either of these yet… and which one should I start first? 👀
