SPOKANE, Wash. — A foundation formed after the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas has named Spokane as one of the proposed sites for a multi-city memorial.
The One in Five Foundation for Kids says the national project will utilize artwork by local artists and students to pay tribute to the more than 500 students killed nationwide since Columbine in 1999.
The foundation is reaching out to nominated cities to discuss location options, public input, and a formal search for artists.
The foundation says Spokane would host one or more unique gun violence memorials at different locations, and the memorials are done at no cost to the city.
Spokane joins other cities from Tennessee, California, Texas, Colorado, Virginia, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi as other proposed sites.
