SANDPOINT, Idaho — The Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center is warning people of avalanche conditions forecasted for its entire region.
A Backcountry Avalanche Watch was issued Friday morning and is in effect until Saturday.
The watch is for Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai and Shoshone counties. The impacted areas include the Selkirk Mountains, East and West Cabinet Mountains, Bitterroot Mountains, and the Silver Valley.
According to the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center, the forecasted snowfall amounts are significant enough to cause avalanches large enough to kill people. These avalanches could release naturally or be triggered by people in backcountries.
The center says travel in these areas is not recommended during this time, but local ski areas are not impacted.
