COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho – A new food storage order was signed for Bonners Ferry, Priest Lake and Sandpoint districts.
The purpose of the order is to reduce the likelihood of wildlife-human interactions or conflicts.
The order from the Idaho Panhandle National Forests requires all ‘attractants’ including people, pets, livestock, food and garbage to be stored in a bear-resistant manner during nighttime hours.
The same rules apply for the daytime when those items are not being attended to or actively being used.
The new order is an update from the previous order set in 2011. To read the full text of the order, click here.
