MOSES LAKE, Wash. – A Moses Lake man was sentenced to federal prison for arson after lighting a car on fire over a drug debt.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington, David Alexander Maybee, 25 of Moses Lake, was sentenced to five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
Court documents showed Maybee and three other people drove to Motel 6 in Moses Lake on January 21, 2022. Maybee and another man walked to a car parked in the parking lot. The other man poured gasoline on the car while Maybee acted as a lookout.
The other man lit the car on fire and the two ran back to their vehicle and left the parking lot.
The entire incident was caught on surveillance cameras at the Motel 6. While the vehicle was destroyed, no one was hurt.
Investigations showed Maybee and the other two people were acting on behalf of a local drug dealer. The vehicle was torched because of a drug debt.
One month after the arson incident, Maybee and another person robbed a Carl’s Jr to get money to pay a drug debt. Maybee was sentenced to 171 months in prison.
Also in February of 2022, Maybee and another person kicked in the back door of a Moses Lake home and stole multiple guns and ammunition.
