SPOKANE, Wash. — Two Spokane County sheriff’s deputies were shot while responding to a domestic violence incident north of Spangle on Tuesday.
Behind The Badge, an organization that supports law enforcement and their families after tragedies, is now working to memorialize the two deputies.
The organization has set up a team of more than 60 people inside the Spokane County Regional Training Center. Their work centers on the families of the fallen deputies.
Brian Johnston, executive director of Behind The Badge, said the organization’s first priority is supporting the families.
“They’re still at a point in time where they’re reeling from the immediacy and the shock, so right now it is really trying to give them the ability to take a little bit of room, to see to their immediate needs,” Johnston said.
Johnston said the organization will provide support to the families however they need it, and that the early days require patience and space.
