OLYMPIA, Wash – Washington voters appear to be passing an initiative that would require athletes to participate in sports based on their gender at birth.
Right now in Washington, K-12 athletes can participate in sports based on the gender with which they identify.
WA INITIATIVE 638 PARTICIPATION IN K-12 SPORTS
Initiative 638 aims to change that, prohibiting biological males from competing with and against female students.
It also requires athletes to submit documentation from their doctor, verifying their sex.
On election night, the initiative is passing with 1,117,424 votes.
