SPOKANE, Wash. — There are only two days left until the high-stakes Midterm election and one of our region’s most competitive races is heating up.
On November 3rd, voters will decide who will take the seat of Washington’s 5th congressional district, representing Eastern Washington.
Democratic candidate Carmela Conroy is once again running against Republican incumbent Michael Baumgartner. The last time the two ran against each other was during the last midterms in 2024.
Baumgartner was door-knocking Sunday morning in the Eagle Ridge neighborhood. He says it is a traditional way for voters to meet their congressman and a reminder for them to vote.
“We’ll just continue to deliver for Eastern Washington,” he said. “I’m somebody that’s from here, that represents the district and people know me, whether it was when we were creating the new WSU medical school or bringing all-day kindergarten to Spokane.”
Democratic candidate Conroy was also door-knocking in the Browne’s Addition neighborhood Sunday. She says her top priority if she is elected would be bringing down prices.
“We’ve got to stop the trade wars and go back to a predictable tariff regime so that businesses can plan, consumers can plan,” she said. “People are going to know how much their Christmas cookies are going to cost them.”
If you still have to vote, it is recommended that you fill it out and take it to a drop box location instead of returning it by mail. Ballot drop boxes close at 8 p.m. sharp Tuesday night.
