COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Coeur d’Alene Public Schools brought together students, families, and community organizations Tuesday to help special education students prepare for life after graduation.
The community resource fair connected students and their families with employers, mental and behavioral health services, and housing providers—all designed to support students as they transition into adulthood.
Brody Beecher, a special education consulting teacher with the district, explained the importance of starting the planning process early.
“Sometimes it takes a while for certain services to kick in and getting that started now shortens that gap for once they turn 18,” Beecher said. “So we’re trying to get as much information as we can to families before that happens.”
The district views events like these as essential tools for helping families navigate the transition efficiently. By connecting families with resources before students reach adulthood, the district aims to eliminate gaps in service coverage and ensure a smoother path forward.
The resource fair is now in its fourth year, and district officials report growing participation from parents each year.
