RATHDRUM, Idaho — A woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with a child abuse investigation that previously led to her husband’s arrest on an attempted murder charge, according to the Rathdrum Police Department.
Melanie Dyk was arrested on a warrant and faces felony charges of injury to a child and aiding and abetting aggravated battery, along with a misdemeanor charge of failure to report child abuse.
Her husband, Aaron Dyk, 32, was previously arrested and booked into the Kootenai County Jail on charges of attempted murder and felony injury to a child.
According to the department’s original news release, officers responded around 8:10 p.m. to a medical call at Highway 41 and Nagle involving a preteen girl. Northern Lakes Fire personnel took her to Kootenai Health.
Aaron Dyk admitted to officers that he had caused the girl’s injuries nearly a week earlier and had noticed changes in her health since then, police said.
The girl was in critical condition and was transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center for further treatment, according to the original release. Wednesday’s update did not include new information about her condition.
Rathdrum Police Chief Daniel Haley said a detective’s follow-up investigation led to the warrant for Melanie Dyk’s arrest.
Police said no additional information would be released at this time.
