OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington Secretary of State says a letter containing white powder was intercepted by law enforcement on Thursday.
The letter was addressed to Washington State Elections. The Secretary of State’s Office did not say whether investigators have positively identified the white powder.
“An attack on election officials or candidates is an attack on our democracy,” said Secretary of State Steve Hobbs. “I thank our federal partners who are doing everything they can to investigate these incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The Secretary of State’s Office says it is working closely with law enforcement to keep election workers safe this election season.
