ST. JOHN, WASH. — A former St. John teacher has been sentenced to six months in jail for sexually abusing a student, the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office announced today.
Mackenzie Naught received the minimum imposable sentence for Sexual Misconduct with a Minor in the First Degree, despite recommendations from the state, victim, and victim’s family for 12 months, according to Senior Deputy Prosecutor Tessa Scholl.
Naught must obtain a psychosexual evaluation, serve 12 months of community supervision after release, and register as a sex offender for 10 years.
“John Doe showed tremendous strength in facing his abuser and making a statement in court explaining how Ms. Naught’s actions impacted him,” Scholl said. “Ms. Naught violated the trust that parents place in teachers to protect their children.”
