Grab your lab coats and your emotional support bookmarks, because the day we have been manifest-praying for is officially here. Prime Video just dropped the official trailer for the film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s global bestseller, The Love Hypothesis, and my inner romance scholar is completely overwhelmed.
First of all, can we talk about the casting? Lili Reinhart is bringing our brilliant, pumpkin-spice-latte-loving PhD candidate Olive Smith to life, and she looks absolutely perfect. But the real experiment here was how they were going to pull off Dr. Adam Carlsen. Enter Tom Bateman as the campus “Dr. Evil.” Seeing him step into those intimidating, tall, brooding shoes while delivering the line about accepting Olive’s fake-dating proposal? Flawless. The slow-burn chemistry is already palpable in just two minutes.
The trailer gives us everything a true book girlie could want. We see the chaotic impulse kiss that starts it all to convince Ahn, the rigid rules of their fake-dating contract, and yes, they even teased the iconic sunscreen scene. To top it all off, the trailer is set to Reneé Rapp’s “Messy,” which is the most immaculate choice for Olive and Adam’s chaotic arrangement.
It feels like just yesterday we were obsessing over this story back when it dominated Goodreads, and now we are less than a month away from seeing it on screen. Mark your calendars for September 23, because our entire community will be collectively pausing our reading slumps to watch this stream on Prime Video.
