WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. — Whitman County Sheriff’s Office has directed that Flock Safety cameras be disabled following community concerns.
The sheriff’s office operated three Flock Safety cameras for the past several months. Grant funding paid for the cameras under a two-year contract.
The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office emphasized in a Facebook post that it did not share camera information with outside agencies. The cameras were used only to search for vehicles directly connected to major crimes, missing person cases, or stolen vehicle investigations. Citizens’ movements and daily activities were never monitored or tracked through the system, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
