Coeur d’Alene, Idaho — The North Idaho State Fair is now open at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, offering families one last chance to squeeze in a summer adventure before the season winds down.
Fair organizers have maintained the classic elements that draw families year after year, including livestock shows, carnival rides and an array of fair food. But this year, they’re also rolling out new attractions to keep the experience.
Among the new additions are sea lions from Texas and a reptile exhibit from California. The reptile exhibit showcases some of the world’s largest snakes, alligators, turtles, spiders, and more.
While new attractions draw attention, the fair continues to honor long-standing traditions that have become part of the community fabric. Curly’s Funtastic Kids Zone is one such tradition, celebrating its 28th year at the fair this year.
“It’s like watching your grandkids go from 5 to 16. You go, how did this happen. And here we are, we just keep doing it. I want to keep doing it as long as I possibly can,” Thomas “Curly” Polvanic said.
Beyond the rides and exhibits, the fair is also hosting a Coats 4 Kids Day on Thursday, August 27. KXLY partners with the North Idaho State fair on this event every year to ensure no child goes without a winter coat heading into the colder months.
Families are invited to bring new or gently used coats to the fairgrounds before 3 p.m. on August 27. In exchange, they will receive free admission to the fair.
