SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane City Council voted unanimously to ratify an emergency declaration in response to the Spokane Complex Fires. The mayor declared a state of emergency on the 4th of August.
The declaration authorizes the mayor to enter into contracts exceeding $50,000 without standard council approval or competitive bidding, allowing the city to respond quickly to the crisis.
“This emergency declaration is essential to ensuring our community’s safety and well-being,” said Council President Betsy Wilkerson. “It enables the city to mobilize resources effectively.”
The state of emergency continues through Oct. 1, 2026, unless extended by the City Council.
