SPOKANE, WASH. — Up to 150 Adult Family Homes across Washington were located in Level Three evacuation zones during recent fires, with damage ranging from minor structural issues to complete destruction, according to the Adult Family Homes Council.
The Adult Family Homes Council, which represents adult family homes throughout Washington, has been working to address the immediate needs of residents displaced by the fires. The organization has prioritized ensuring that displaced residents have places to go and continue receiving necessary care.
“That’s kind of been our big priority, is making sure that any of the displaced residents have places to go,” said Douglas Hummer, director of communications and digital technology for the council.
The council has been coordinating with providers across the state to maintain continuity of care for vulnerable residents who have been forced to leave their homes. Adult family homes typically serve elderly residents and those with disabilities who require ongoing support and medical attention.
The organization is currently waiting on guidance from the Department of Social and Health Services to determine next steps and develop a more comprehensive strategy for addressing the long-term needs of affected facilities and residents. The council says this guidance will help clarify the path forward as communities work to rebuild and restore services in fire-affected areas.
