CHENEY, Wash. — UPDATE, September 18, 4:19 p.m.
The lockdown at Windsor Elementary and Westwood Middle School has been lifted.
Cheney Public Schools said the suspicious people have been found and there is no threat to the schools or community.
All after school activities at the middle school have been canceled.
Buses will come and get students at Windsor to bring them home on the regular route.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said kids were playing with airsoft replica guns in a field near the school. Deputies spoke with the kids and said there was no threat to either school.
ORIGINAL STORY, September 18, 3:46 p.m.
Windsor Elementary School and Westwood Middle School are currently under lockdown because of suspicious people near the schools.
Cheney Public Schools said parents are not able to enter the building to pick up their kids while the building is under lockdown.
Law enforcement is at the schools and in the community nearby looking for the suspicious people.
Buses 63, 74 and 86 from Windsor Elementary left the school before the lockdown started and are on their regular route. The rest of the buses are waiting at Snowdon Elementary for the lockdown to be lifted. Students have not been relocated to Snowdon, they remain on campus unless they were on the buses mentioned earlier.
Cheney Public Schools said all students and coaches are safe inside the buildings.
