CLARKSON, Wash. — Highland Elementary School in Asotin County was briefly locked down Wednesday morning for a report of a parent with a gun.
According to the Clarkston School District, a parent was seen with a gun while dropping off their child near the school around 8:15 a.m.
Police responded and determined the parent had the gun across the street which is a legal area to carry a firearm. While police investigated, the school was locked down for about five minutes.
The district says the school’s resource officer spoke with the parent about the seriousness of the situation and the parent cooperated.
The district adds they do not believe there was any risk to staff or students and are working with law enforcement to ensure the community’s safety.
