About 7,000 Marvel fans packed the San Diego Comic-Con convention center on Saturday, and some people camped out for more than 30 hours just to guarantee a spot at Marvel’s 40-minute panel.
Was it worth it? According to my Marvel-obsessed husband, obviously. Here’s what I’ve learned so you don’t have to:
First, sorry Nic Cage, but Ryan Gosling is reportedly taking over as Ghost Rider. The movie is expected in 2028 and will be directed by Shawn Levy, who is also working with Gosling on next year’s Star Wars: Starfighter.
Black Panther 3 was also announced, with David Jonsson playing T’Challa’s grown-up son. And yes, T’Challa was played by the late Chadwick Boseman. Jonsson is probably best known for HBO’s Industry. That movie is also expected in 2028.
Ryan Reynolds crashed the panel in disguise, wearing a never-before-seen gray Deadpool suit and pretending to be a cosplayer. He even jokingly asked if there was room for him in Avengers: Doomsday.
And, of course, Robert Downey Jr. was there to hype up Doomsday. Every seat in the audience came with a Doctor Doom mask and cloak, and on Downey’s cue, thousands of fans put them on at the same time. Honestly, that sounds pretty cool, even to someone who has had to learn an entire cinematic universe just to keep up with her husband.
The panel also featured Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman and Kelsey Grammer.
Hayley Atwell also appeared and confirmed she’s returning as Peggy Carter.
Fans were also shown a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which gives us more backstory on Doctor Doom. He comes from the same world as the Fantastic Four and has lost everything he loves. Now, he believes everyone else is living stolen lives.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18th.
And, switching gears completely, Prime Video also released a teaser for Carrie, which premieres October 7th. It’s director Mike Flanagan’s take on the Stephen King classic. You may know Flanagan from The Haunting of Hill House.
