SPOKANE, Wash. — A new lamppost and a cleared bus stop mark the slow and steady progress to repair the damage caused by a dangerous car crash on Friday night.
Asis Rosalez, injured in the crash, described the terrifying incident.
“The car came all the way up to here and hit us,” Rosalez said. “I pushed my girlfriend out of the way; she went over that way, and the car kept coming at us. It was scary.”

Rosalez, who wore a bandage on his arm from the injury, said that he and his girlfriend are still suffering from the trauma. “We’ve just been…traumatized.”
The man responsible for the crash is 43-year-old Samual Clopton, who appeared in court on Monday.
Police say Clopton drove his car off the road and into the lean-to bus stop at the corner of Stone and Sprague on Friday night.
The vehicle left marks on the side of the Vanessa Behan Center before allegedly driving away.
Amy Vega, executive director of the Vanessa Behan Center, expressed relief that everyone is okay and that the center can continue to support the families that rely on them.
“Our building, as you can see, is almost indestructible. We’re really lucky that it’s built so well and that it provided the safety we needed. I think we’ve proven that the building is a great structure for our kids and families,” she said.
Vega says she is grateful for the community’s support picking up the pieces.
“This community has been so gracious and good to us and we will just continue to trust that our needs will be taken care of so we can continue to serve the kids that we need to and the families that are relying on us.”
