SPOKANE, Wash. — As families prepare for the new school year, a local partnership is offering an affordable alternative to expensive back-to-school shopping while reducing waste.
Art Salvage Spokane and the Spokane County Regional Waste Ambassadors have launched their second annual school supply drive, inviting the community to donate gently used classroom materials through the end of July. The initiative accepts donations at any Spokane Public Library or Spokane County Library District location.
Volunteers sort through the collected donations and redistribute them free of charge to families and students before classes resume.
“We are basically just trying to get as many reusable school supplies out of the waste stream, and hand them back to families and kids who can use them,” said Jill Reeves, with the Spokane County Regional Waste Ambassadors.
The drive accepts any school supplies suitable for classroom use, from pencils and notebooks to folders and writing instruments.
While the formal drive concludes at the end of July, Art Salvage Spokane continues accepting school supply donations year-round. Families interested in obtaining recycled materials must complete a request form available through this link: spokanecity.wufoo.com/forms/schoolcycle-request-for-supplies/
