GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — Mosquitos in the Moses Lake area have recently tested positive for West Nile Virus, according to the Grant County Health District.
The mosquitos were collected during routine testing on June 23. The positive result was confirmed on Monday.
GCHD says it is possible these mosquitos could be carrying the virus in other areas.
West Nile virus has already been reported this year in neighboring counties. So far this year, there have been no reports of people or pets infected with West Nile virus in Washington.
“Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance; they can carry diseases like West Nile virus,” said Amber McCoy, GCHD Investigation & Response Manager. “While most people who are infected will not get sick, WNV can cause severe illness. This mosquito season, take steps to keep mosquitoes away from you, your animals, and your home.”
