KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho – One person was hospitalized Wednesday night from a domestic violence shooting near Spirit Lake.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home in the 28000 block of Highway 41 near Spirit Lake at approximately 10:30 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Timberlake Fire crews responded and provided medical aid. The man was taken to the hospital where he remained Thursday morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, the preliminary investigation indicates an adult man and woman were fighting. During the fight, a juvenile grabbed a gun and confronted the man who was allegedly standing over the woman.
Investigators say the juvenile told the man to stop and leave the home. They say the man aggressively advanced toward the juvenile who then fired a single shot.
The juvenile and woman were able to leave the home and call 911.
Deputies say there was an active no contact order in place between the man and woman.
The investigation continues and charges are expected pending the suspect’s release from the hospital.
