VANTAGE, Wash – Drivers heading across the state of Washington for this weekend’s Apple Cup or other events should expect significant delays heading over the Vantage Bridge.
Washington Department of Transportation is replacing the existing bridge deck. WSDOT says it’s the first major overhaul of the bridge since 1982.
This means traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Drivers can expect narrow lanes, narrow shoulders, and reduced speed. With that comes significant delays, especially on weekends.
WSDOT says drivers should expect long delays eastbound Fridays and westbound Sundays, which could be a real challenge for travelers heading to and from the Apple Cup in Seattle this weekend.
WSDOT expects the bridge work will add an hour to your trip.
On Twitter/X, WSDOT joked about the project with a picture of a wheat field depicting WSU’s mascot and the words “Go Cougs (But not to Vantage Bridge)”.
