SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A vehicle plunged approximately 200 feet down an embankment into a river near E River Road and N Canal Road on Friday. The driver and two animals escaped safely before Spokane Valley Fire Department crews arrived.
The vehicle struck a small tree, preventing it from fully submerging. No injuries were reported.
“This incident highlights how quickly things can go wrong—and how serious the outcome can be. That’s why we train year-round, preparing for all types of incidents so we’re ready when it matters most,” fire officials said.
Officials used the incident to remind drivers to slow down near water or steep drop-offs, stay focused, and always wear seatbelts. They stressed that road conditions, speed, and momentary lapses in attention can combine to create dangerous situations.
The specific cause of the vehicle leaving the roadway has not been disclosed.
