LEWISTON, Idaho — Idaho Fish and Game is trying to find out why around 150 fish recently stocked at Kiwanis Park Pond in Lewiston were found dead two days later.
According to IDFG, initial assessments have not identified any obvious environmental cause for the fish loss. Hatchery staff also reported no issues during the transport or stocking of the fish.
Despite the loss, IDFG says conditions in the pond are still favorable and local anglers have reported high catch rates
Clearwater Regional Fisheries staff are also working with pond managers to determine the cause of the fish die off. Monitoring will continue in the coming days to make sure pond conditions are suitable for future fish stocking.
The next scheduled stocking for Kiwanis Park Pons is planned for April. IDFG says if the pond is determined to be unsafe at that time, fish will be moved to Soldiers Meadow Reservoir instead.
