I am a frequent, card-carrying victim of the Sunday Scaries. By about 3 p.m., my anxiety level shoots up to “gazelle being chased by a lion.” 🦌💨 At this point I can’t decide if I need to hop on the whole “Sunday Reset” trend… or just delete social media and live in blissful ignorance.
Sundays used to mean sleeping in, staying in pajamas way too long, and pretending Monday didn’t exist. Now? For a lot of us, the day feels less like a break and more like a soft launch of the work week.
A new Amerisleep survey of 1,001 U.S. adults found that 53% of people regularly do a “Sunday reset.” Think cleaning, planning, meal prep, laundry — basically everything required to make Monday slightly less chaotic.
And honestly… I get it.
-
69% say it actually reduces anxiety and helps avoid the Sunday Scaries
-
About 1 in 10 feel social media makes them look like they’re “doing Sunday wrong” 😵💫
-
43% admit their reset is more about preparing for work than enjoying their day off
So yes, the reset can help… but it can also turn your last day of freedom into a productivity marathon. Hard pass.
My take? A Sunday reset should make your life easier — not steal your entire weekend.
If you want to try one without ruining Sunday, experts say it should only take 1–3 hours max. Not sunrise to sunset.
Here’s the low-stress version I can actually get behind:
✔️ Do the chores that make weekday you miserable
Laundry, dishes, checking the calendar, prepping breakfast — future you will be grateful.
✔️ Keep the list SHORT
Three useful tasks is plenty. This is not a corporate retreat.
✔️ Protect real downtime
Sunday should still feel like a day off. Nap. Watch trash TV. Touch grass. Whatever fills your cup. ☕📺
✔️ Ignore social media perfection
No one needs a color-coded planner, a fridge full of influencer meal prep containers, or a cinematic “reset routine” to prove they did Sunday correctly. If you go to bed feeling slightly more prepared and slightly less panicked… you won.
Personally, I’m aiming for a “bare minimum reset” followed by aggressive lounging. Balance. 😌
