COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The National Weather Service has issued an avalanche warning for parts of North Idaho Thursday.
NWS warns of high avalanche danger in the west and east Cabinet Mountains and the Bitterroot Mountains. Also affected: areas of the Silver Valley above 4,000 feet.
The warning is due to new snow that has formed dangerous slabs and “will likely cause a widespread cycle of natural avalanches large enough to bury, injure, or kill a person,” NWS said. “It will be very easy for backcountry travelers to trigger them during this period.”
NWS says travel in this area is not recommended.
