SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — A convicted murderer was sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting and killing 40-year-old Lisa M. Shimek in 2021.
According to Spokane Valley Police, Jason E. Woodlief pled guilty to first-degree murder with a firearm last month after detectives said he had planned to shoot Shimek before her murder.
On October 10, 2021, Spokane Valley deputies found Shimek suffering from a gunshot wound at a home on North Wilbur Road around 2:30 a.m. Shimek’s boyfriend told deputies Woodlief fled toward Wilbur and Broadway.
A short time later, a deputy saw Woodlief sitting in the side yard of a home on East Broadway. He was taken into custody without incident.
Spokane Valley Detectives said Woodlief was at a friend’s home with his roommate, the victim and her two children. Woodlief was drinking and began arguing with others. The roommate, the victim and her children left and went back to their home on Wilbur.
Soon after, witnesses said Woodlief smashed up one of the cars at the home where the shooting happened. Woodlief went downstairs to his bedroom in the home’s basement, leaving the roommate, the victim and her children upstairs.
SVPD said Woodlief went back upstairs, argued with Shimek and shot her before fleeing the scene. The victim’s boyfriend and her children were not hurt.
