SPOKANE, Wash. — If you’re looking for something different to do this President’s Day, why not check out Washington’s only Waste to Energy Facility?
The City of Spokane Solid Waste Disposal Department is offering free tours at the Waste to Energy Facility on South Geiger Boulevard on Monday, Feb. 16.
Visitors will learn how garbage moves from the tipping floor to the claw, then to the boiler. You will also explore where trash is burned and steam is harnessed to generate enough electricity to power 13,000 homes.
You must wear close-toes shoes and dress for the weather as there is some walking outdoors.
Tours take around 90 minutes and are best for adults and children 6 years old and older. All visitors must be able to wear PPE including head, eye and ear protection. Infants and toddlers are not permitted.
