SPOKANE, Wash. — A SWAT standoff ended with one person in custody Friday evening on North Hemlock in Spokane.
According to the Spokane Police Department, a woman called crying for help just before 6:30 p.m. on Friday. SPD says yelling could be heard in the background and comments were being made about a gun.
SPD said a man was heard yelling at people to get out of the home. The man, 43-year-old Clayton J. Green, made comments about waiting for officers with a gun.
Two women left the home and were contacted by police. Due to safety issues and Green’s comments about waiting for law enforcement, SWAT and other specialty units were called.
SPD said during the standoff, Green made comments about shooting himself or law enforcement if they entered the home and talked about having different weapons.
Green would come out on the porch at times but would go back inside.
Just after 9 p.m., Green walked out on to the front porch, armed with a gun. SPD said Green then placed the gun to his head and was yelling. Green refused to surrender to police and went back inside.
Around 10:30 p.m., SPD said Green threw a lit firework out the front door toward the SWAT officers. SPD then put chemical irritants into the home.
Just before 11:30 p.m., Green left the home and was taken into custody without incident.
He was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail for felony harassment, arson, and assault..
