SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane City Council is set to vote on an ordinance to vacate a small section of 13th avenue in the Vinegar Flats neighborhood along Hangman Creek.
The city water department operates a booster station at the intersection of 13th and Inland Empire Way. The station needs to be expanded to pump more water to higher elevations such as the South Hill.
The Development Services Center says there isn’t enough room on the land currently housing the booster station. Vacating the road would allow for the expansion.
People would still have access to the neighborhood from 12th avenue and 14th avenue. Both of those streets are paved. The section of 13th that could be vacated is currently gravel.
If approved the project would not only lead to an expanded booster station but also the sidewalk along Inland Empire Way being rebuild and extended across where 13th avenue was removed.
The City Council will vote on the ordinance at the next council meeting scheduled for January 12th.
