SPOKANE, Wash – Female authors dominated the list of most-checked out books at Spokane County libraries in 2025.
The Spokane County Library District shared which books were most frequently requested, broken down by format and genre.
Kristin Hannah’s “The Women” was the most frequently checked-out adult fiction book for all formats, print and audio.
The Reformatory was the most checked-out in print. That book was chosen as the Spokane is Reading book for 2025.
The top ten books for adult fiction in all formats were:

The most popular non-fiction book at Spokane County Libraries in 2025 was “The Let Them Theory” by Mel Robbins.
Books about two local tragedies were among the most popular non-fiction books checked out this year. “Out of the Woods” tells the story of Shasta Groene, who was kidnapped from Coeur d’Alene in 2005, her family murdered by a serial killer.
James Patterson’s “The Idaho Four” about the University of Idaho murders also made the list.

The most checked-out teen fiction book by format was “Sunrise on the Reaping” by Suzanne Collins.
The top 10 kids fiction book was “Hot Mess (Diary of a Wimpy Kid #19)” by Jeff Kinney.
