OKANOGAN, Wash. — A fire early Monday morning destroyed the vacant Quality Inn & Suites Okanogan, completely engulfing the building and causing it to collapse before firefighters could arrive on scene, according to Okanogan County Emergency Management.
The fire began at 1:30 a.m. at the hotel located off Highway 97, south of the city. The fire started at the north end of the building and spread toward the south.
By the time emergency crews arrived, the structure had already collapsed from the intense flames, according to Okanogan County Emergency Management.
The hotel had been sitting vacant for more than two years, officials said.
According to Okanogan County Emergency Management, the property had been closed since November 2023, when a previous fire caused extensive damage. The building had been taped off and fenced following that earlier incident.
At the time of Monday’s fire, the building had no electricity or water supply, officials said. However, fire hydrants outside the property did have water available for firefighting efforts.
Authorities reported no injuries and are investigating the cause of the fire.
