PLUMMER, Idaho — Thousands of households across the region remain without power following yesterday’s historic windstorm as utility crews work around the clock to restore electricity.
Plummer, Idaho has been among the hardest-hit communities, where nearly the entire town lost power. The Plummer Worley Joint School District canceled classes for Thursday due to ongoing outages.
Kootenai Electric, which services the town, says downed power lines and extensive transmission caused the outage and anticipates power could return by Friday
“It got really bad. Like, the gusts were awful. And we just heard from, like, online that, people are losing their roofs. The power poles in town were going down,” said Ruth Hutchins, owner of Timber Ridge Espresso.
Despite the challenges, community members are helping neighbors weather the extended outage. Timber Ridge Espresso is handing out free iced drinks to cleanup volunteers, while Marimn Health Medical Center is offering free meals to residents who cannot cook at home.
“When we realize that there’s a need in the community and everyone is being affected, that’s when we come together the most. And figure out how can we support them,” said Joey Buckner of Marimn Health.
Utility crews continue working to repair damaged transmission lines. Residents are advised to stay away from downed power lines and report electrical hazards to their utility company.
