SPOKANE, Wash. — Christmas Tree Elegance is back at the historic Davenport Hotel for its 43rd year, drawing families from across the region for the popular holiday tradition.
The event features 16 decorated trees and one Father Christmas that visitors can win through a raffle. Tickets cost one dollar each.
Crowds packed the hotel as families walked through the displays. Many said the best part is spending time together and reuniting during the holidays.
Flora Goldstein and Deborah Corned have been friends for 40 years and have a tradition of attending the event together.
“We usually do one circuit around and then keep in mind which ones we want to put our stubs in,” Goldstein said.
“I never win anything but that doesn’t matter. It is all for the cause of supporting the symphony and just being out in the community and seeing people,” she said.
Christmas Tree Elegance is the Spokane Symphony’s biggest fundraiser. Every dollar from ticket sales goes to the symphony. Last December, the event sold over 526,000 raffle tickets. This year’s sales are expected to surpass that record.
“You have time to dream until it’s all over… like maybe I actually did win something,” Deborah said.
Raffle ticket sales continue through Sunday at 4 p.m. Winners will be announced at a drawing ceremony at River Park Square at 5 p.m. and at the Davenport Hotel at 6:30 p.m.
