PULLMAN, Wash. – Freshman Ace Glass wasted no time making noise at Washington State.
“Just everything falling in line for me,” Glass said. “I’ve been working hard since middle school for this; it’s been a goal my whole life to play college basketball.”
That lifelong work showed up when he dropped 40 points against Arizona State at the Maui invitational, breaking the Washington State freshman single-game scoring record. A performance that earned him WCC Freshman of the Week honors.
“It meant a lot to show that I’m one of the best players in the country and to just keep working,” he said. “The work is working obviously so just keep doing what I’m doing.”
Those closest to his development, including head coach David Riley, see something special in the way Glass is progressing.
“I haven’t seen someone take this and have as good as trajectory as his, he’s done a great job,” Riley said.
Although, the story goes deeper than stats. Glass grounds himself in the people and values that shape him.
“Huge influence, God and family are my main two things,” he said. “My family’s love means everything to me, that’s why I push through every day. That’s why I play basketball every day as hard as I can.”
He approaches every day with a mindset that his dad instilled in him, one that keeps him steady through it all.
“I feel like my dad taught me just take the highs and lows,” he said. “Just take every day head on, don’t try to think into the future think into the past, just take every day head on.”
Glass wears his values with pride, in the tattoo across his back, honoring his family and his faith.
“Just represent my Glass family,” he said. “Then I have a Bible quote under it.”
Ace Glass is a breakout freshman and a record-setter, but beyond that, he plays for more than the scoreboard.
“Just be happy through it all because God has your back,” said Glass.
