PULLMAN, Wash – The man who will lead the Washington State Cougar offense in at the end of this uncertain season is urging fans to rally behind the players.
Quarterback Zevi Eckhaus posted a message on Twitter/X Monday, as the Cougs prepare for the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl without their head coach.
Coach Jimmy Rogers left Pullman over the weekend for a new job at Iowa State.
This is the second year in a row the Cougs’ head coach has bailed for a new job before the bowl game.
Last year, it was Eckhaus who made the most of that bowl game, playing in place of quarterback John Mateer who left after the regular season for Oklahoma.
“This has been a wild past couple of days for everyone involved with WSU football,” Eckhaus wrote. “However, with everything going on we still have the ability to show why Cougs are more resilient and closely bonded from the rest.”
“Countless players, fans, and members associated with our program have invested so much time into this season, I believe we all deserve to end it off on a positive note. For many of us, this will be our last opportunity to represent the Cougar logo, and we would want nothing more than to do so as winners with our fans rallying behind us. Hope to see all of you guys there in 2 weeks time.”
