SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — A recall campaign was launched against Spokane County Commissioner Al French on Tuesday, claiming he failed to protect his constituents.
The campaign is spearheaded by the new Clean Water Accountability Coalition, which said it is seeking to remove French from his position because of his role in the West Plains PFAs contamination.
The group said French intentionally withheld funding to address water contamination and actively worked to cover it up.
Additionally, the Clean Water Accountability Coalition is connected to a Washington progressive organization that endorses Molly Marshall, one of French’s opponents.
The recall charges were delivered by Mary Benham, whose water has been impacted by PFAs.
“I’m grateful to the system that we have in this country, sincerely. An individual can be heard and we can form a coalition and make our voices heard,” said Behman.
4 News Now reached out to Commissioner French, but had not heard back by the time of publishing.
The last successful recall petition was in 2005 when Spokane voters recalled Mayor Jim West.
