COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — The chief of the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department is planning to retire capping nearly 30 years of service with the department.
The City of Coeur d’Alene announced Fire Chief Tom Greif will retire in April 2026.
Greif started with the department in 1997 and was named chief in 2022.
Coeur d’Alene credit Chief Greif with critical equipment upgrades, a five-year master plan, and strong partnerships with agencies in his time at the helm.
“Serving the City of Coeur d’Alene for 28 years and Kootenai County for the past 33 years has been the honor of a lifetime,” said Chief Greif. “I’ve been surrounded by some of the most amazing and dedicated professionals that a community could ever wish for. As I prepare to begin a new chapter on April 17th, 2026, I do so with immense pride! This community will always be my home, and I’ll forever be proud to have worn the badge here.”
