SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane County Assessor Tom Konis is warning residents about fraudulent calls appearing to come from his office.
Several residents reported receiving after-hours calls from individuals claiming to represent the assessor’s office. The calls do not originate from the office, according to Konis.
“This is a spoofing attack,” Konis said. “These calls are not legitimate and are not coming from our office. We urge residents to protect their personal and financial information.”
Officials advise residents: Don’t answer unknown calls, even if caller ID shows “Spokane County.” Never share personal information unless certain of the caller’s identity. Report suspicious calls to Crime Check.
The assessor’s office is working with authorities to monitor the situation. Legitimate contact occurs during business hours through official channels.
