SPOKANE, Wash. — It appears as though Councilmember Bingle will continue to represent Spokane’s District 1, as the first run of numbers is tallied on election night.
As of 9:17 p.m., incumbent Jonathan Bingle is leading the race with 51.15% against opponent Sarah Dixit’s 48.48%.
Councilmember Bingle has represented District 1 since 2022. He is a lifelong resident of Northeast Spokane and has focused much of his time in office on public safety and growing Spokane’s economy.
According to his reelection campaign website, Councilmember Bingle has also worked toward increasing affordable housing.
“As a councilmember, Jonathan has authored, co-authored, and supported policies that have reduced unnecessary city regulations leading to record numbers of market-rate and affordable housing units being developed in Spokane,” reads his website.
According to Candidate Dixit’s campaign website, she was born and raised in Pasadena, California and moved to Spokane in 2014 to attend Whitworth University.
Her professional career in community organizing has included positions at Pro-Choice Washington, Asians for Collective Liberation and City of Spokane’s Equity Subcommittee.
“Sarah was born and raised in Pasadena, California, in an Indian immigrant household, where family was the central pillar for her. She is a firm believer that it takes a village to raise the next generation,” reads her campaign website.
As of Tuesday evening, 24.84% of ballots have been returned. Votes will continue to be counted over the next several days. Final results will be certified on November 25.
