COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — With all votes counted in Kootenai County, Dan Gookin will be the next mayor of Coeur d’Alene.
Four candidates, including incumbent Woody McEvers, were vying for the position.
At the final unofficial count, Gookin received 34.19% of the vote. Debbie Loffman finished with 28%, and McEvers got 26.46%.
Dan Gookin currently serves on CDA City Council. His campaign website lists his potential mayoral goals as keeping city council informed, creating a city policy manual and supporting small businesses.
“In my tenure on the Coeur d’Alene city council, I ask the tough questions. I hold staff accountable. I stand up for the common citizen. I respond to my email. I’m a fiscal conservative who’s never voted for a property tax increase. I vote to protect established neighborhoods and ensure the character and charm of Coeur d’Alene. I will maintain these responsibilities when I’m your mayor,” reads his campaign website.
Mayor McEvers held the position since 2024 and been involved with local CDA government since he was elected to City Council in 2022.
“During Woody’s years of service, many important projects have been completed. A small selection includes: the Public Library, Kroc Center, two new Fire Stations to serve citizens, Atlas Mill Site Park, McEuen Park revitalization, Riverstone Development, expansion of the Wastewater Treatment Facility to state-of-the-art status, creation of the city’s newest water wells, and a new Coeur d’Alene Skate Park,” reads the City of CDA website.
Debbie Loffman hs lived in Coeur d’Alene since 2019. According to her campaign website, she has run a property management business for the last two decades.
Her campaign focuses include keeping CDA affordable, limiting tall buildings and cranes downtown, protecting CDA’s small-town feel and supporting police and first responders.
At the final count, 28% of Kootenai County voters returned their ballots. Final results will be certified on in late November.
