SPOKANE, Wash. — Farmers markets in the Inland Northwest are sticking around well past the summer season this year, allowing shoppers to grab fresh, local goods even as the leaves start to change.
The Spokane Farmers Market is trying something new this year. Normally it wraps up in October, but this season the farmers market will stay open until the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Local farmer James Rowley says keeping the market open longer lets him bring much more produce straight to customers.
“It is good for business because a lot of the farms still have quite a bit of product left, like the fall crops like onions, beets, carrots, apples, winter squash,” Rowley said. “All those are just now coming into their time.”
The Spokane Farmers Market operates at Coeur d’Alene Park in Browne’s Addition, open from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays. However, only the Saturday market will stay open for the extra weeks in November from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
