COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — The veteran Coeur d’Alene firefighter who was shot in an ambush in late June is getting ready to move into outpatient care.
Dave Tysdal was one of three firefighters shot while responding to a fire call on Canfield Mountain. The other two firefighters died.
Tysdal was shot in the back and suffered a collapsed lung and spinal swelling. In the days following the attack, the fire department said Tysdal was unable to move his legs but was able to move the toes on one foot a few weeks after.
He has been receiving treatment at a specialty hospital in Colorado since mid-July. On Saturday, the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department announced that he will be leaving the hospital next week and move into a nearby apartment with his wife and children.
“The family will continue to live in Colorado, for now, where he can keep working on his rehabilitation. They are still hopeful for a miracle and that he will regain function of his legs,” the fire department said.
The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department says if you would like to send him well wishes, address them to the Fire Department’s administration office at 300 E. Foster, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
