SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane County Fire District 9 will launch ambulance transport services July 1, 2026, eliminating ambulance bills for residents.
The district will operate the service with its paramedics and EMTs to improve response times and patient care.
“By moving ambulance transport services in-house, we are improving the continuity of care and making the service more financially sustainable,” said Matthew Vinci, fire chief.
A Resident Waiver Program will eliminate out-of-pocket ambulance costs for all District 9 residents.
“This program removes the financial burden from our residents during medical emergencies,” Vinci said.
Fire District 9 has applied for a transport license with the Washington Department of Health and received more than 30 letters of support from county stakeholders.
The district will hold public information sessions in coming weeks.
