Olympia, WASHINGTON — The three West Coast states are forming a new healthcare alliance aimed at upholding “scientific integrity.”
On Wednesday, Washington, California, and Oregon launched the new West Coast Health Alliance in response to what they say is President Trump destroying the CDC’s credibility.
The announcement says the group will help protect people using science and not politics.
The alliance says it will be committed to ensuring public health recommendations are guided by safety, efficacy, transparency, access and trust. It will start with creating guidelines that align immunization recommendations with trusted national medical organizations.
A joint statement from Governors Bob Ferguson, Gavin Newsom, and Tina Kotek says, “President Trump’s mass firing of CDC doctors and scientists — and his blatant politicization of the agency — is a direct assault on the health and safety of the American people. The CDC has become a political tool that increasingly peddles ideology instead of science, ideology that will lead to severe health consequences. California, Oregon, and Washington will not allow the people of our states to be put at risk.”
