SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane theater company will present a two-person musical about siblings navigating decades of American change this fall.
‘Theater on the Verge‘ will present “John & Jen” from Nov. 6-22 at The Hamilton Studio Listening Room. The production features Chelsea DuVall as Jen and Oskar Owens as John in the Andrew Lippa and Tom Greenwald musical. Troy Nickerson will direct the show, which tells the story of a sister and brother growing up in the 1950s and ’60s, and later of a mother raising her son in the 1980s and ’90s.
DuVall, a Spokane-based theater artist and educator, has performed and directed locally at Spokane Civic Theatre, Gonzaga University and Stage Left Theater. She has also performed internationally in Germany, Russia, Scotland and Iceland.
Owens, a Coeur d’Alene-based actor and musician, trained at Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York City. His recent credits include Earl in “Waitress,” Roger in “Rent” and Dr. Jekyll in “Jekyll & Hyde.”
“We’re drawn to work that invites reflection and conversation,” Nickerson said. “John & Jen speaks to the heart of what we want to do: tell stories that matter, in spaces where audiences can really feel them.”
The show runs in November on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. at The Hamilton Studio Listening Room, 1427 W. Dean Ave. Tickets are available at www.theaterontheverge.com.
