SPOKANE, Wash. — Chess players of all ages will gather at Riverfront Park on Wednesday evening for an inaugural community chess festival designed to introduce the game to new players while celebrating the local chess community.
Attendees can expect chess lessons for different experience levels and ongoing matches where participants can test their skills against local players.
Kape Cha will provide beverages while the FilAm NW Association will offer food options.
The Chess at the Riverfront event runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 3, offering free chess lessons, competitive games and family entertainment.
The festival is organized by Blitz & Blunders and the Greater Spokane Chess League, with support from Kape Cha and the FilAm NW Association.
No registration is required. Participants can arrive any time during the four-hour window to join activities that match their skill level.
